SSAT Upper Level Math Diagnostic Test - Identify your skill gaps in 1 hour
Welcome to the KellyMath Free SSAT Diagnostic Test
Before you invest time or money into full SSAT Upper Level prep, spend 1 hour finding out where you actually stand.
This diagnostic test is organized by all 18 SSAT Upper Level math topics, so instead of a single overall score, you get a clear picture of exactly which topics are solid and which need work – before you build a study plan around the wrong ones. It's completely free: 40 real SSAT-style questions with full explanations for every one, the same kind of diagnostic work I'd normally do with a student in a paid session.
(Quick note up front: this is the quick version. If you want to go deeper, I also have a free 18-chapter diagnostic workbook, plus the Foundations Bundle and Complete Course if you're ready for full guided prep, or email me anytime at HiKellyMath@gmail.com – happy to help you figure out where to start.)
What's inside
40 SSAT-style questions, organized by the same 18 topics tested on the SSAT Upper Level Math section – 2 to 4 questions per topic. After the test, you'll find a complete answer key, full worked explanations for every question, and the shortcuts I teach in tutoring sessions and in my book, Hacking the SSAT Upper Level Math: Shortcuts & Strategies for Every Question Type.
Why a diagnostic instead of another practice test
Most practice tests hand you a score and call it done. This one is organized differently on purpose: because the questions are grouped by topic instead of mixed together, you don't just find out how you did – you find out exactly which of the 18 topics to prioritize and which you can set aside for now. That's the difference between "I got a 65%" and "I need work on probability and data charts, but geometry is solid."
Who this is for
Students preparing for the SSAT Upper Level (typically 7th to 9th grade) who want a fast, honest read on where they stand, parents assessing readiness before committing to prep, tutors diagnosing a new student's gaps, and students retaking the test who want to know exactly what to fix.
How to use it
Set a timer for 48 minutes – that's real SSAT pacing, 40 questions at just over a minute each. Work through it without a calculator, the way you would on test day. Then use the answer key and explanations to see exactly where your gaps are, and turn to "How to Use Your Results" at the end for what to do next.
What happens after you finish it
“How to Use Your Results” turns your results into a clear next step, whether that's:
- Working through the specific chapters where you need it most – available individually or as bundles
- Bringing your results to a tutor (me or anyone else) as a ready-made study plan
- Working through the deeper diagnostic workbook if you want more practice on a specific topic before committing to a plan
A note from Kelly:
I built this diagnostic the same way I evaluate a new student in our first session together: by topic, not by overall score, because that's the only way to know what's actually worth studying.
I hope this gives you a clear, honest starting point. Good luck on your journey to your goal score and your dream school!
